JSC Polotsk-Steklovolokno (Belarus) starts producing highly competitive basalt fiber

The Polotsk-Steklovolokno plant saw 2015 off with a successful launch of the basalt fiber production facility, which has been modified by the company experts. The technical innovations introduced to the process technology make possible to increase performance with reduced expenditure side of the production.

According to the chief technologist of the company Ludmila Kuschenko, stated POLOTSK24, commissioning of a new facility will bring production capacity up to 600 tons of basalt fiber per year. A modular unit with a multiple-draw hole feeder previously had been developed and put into operation at JSC Polotsk-Steklovolokno within the “Kompromat” programme. For 8 months of operation, the plant has managed to produce and sell 125 tons of various products, including basalt rods, fabrics, and fibers.

At present Ukrainian basalt rock is used as a raw material. However, a basalt deposit recently discovered in Belarus gives the opportunity for the enterprise to withdraw from import and to start production based on the domestic material.
