Basalt fiber alkali resistance and methods to increase it

In this paper, destruction mechanism for basalt fiber in cement concrete is described and a variety of methods to protect it from alkali-corrosion are analyzed.

The use of basalt fiber for disperse concrete reinforcement is a very promising direction in the concrete technology. However, the constraint for mass introduction of this material is a low resistance of basalt fibers to the products of cement hydration.

Factors affecting the properties of composites made by 4D printing

3D printing is the process where layers of materials are deposited to make structures of complex geometries. 4D printing is a process that combines 3D printing with the application of some activating agent in order to change the shape of the manufactured part after the process, e.g. the flat structure will change its shape to take up the desired complicated shape such as “curved” or “S” shaped.
