Heat losses in the section of a straight pipeline insulated with conventional mineral wool (e.g. basalt mats) are 3.6 times higher than losses in a similar section insulated with basalt fiber cylinders. When conventional mineral wool is used, heat losses are as follows: during the first year of operation – 10%, the second year – 30%, and the third year – 45%, and average annual heat loss level is 28%.
When mineral wool cylinders are used, heat losses amount to 8% during all years of operation. This fact indicates a higher technology efficiency, which makes it possible to achieve annual energy savings of 20% (28% -8%).
Classical technology lies in wrapping the pipes with mineral wool or glass wool mats laminated with a fiberglass protection. In the process of pipes winding, the mats require significant human efforts, time consumption, they do not hold the shape well, and there is also an uneven covering layer thickness due to installer’s different efforts and overlapping edges.
The technology of pipelines insulation with mineral wool cylinders lacks these drawbacks. Convenient and quick installation of mineral wool cylinders with a meter in diameter helps both to minimize the influence of a “human factor”, and protective coatings (aluminum foil, sheet aluminum, galvanized steel) prevent insulation from mechanical damage, failure of insulation layer thickness and climatic impact.
Mineral wool insulation cylinders on a synthetic matrix are contemporary thermal-insulation material with high-performance thermal characteristics compared to previously produced materials which were used as thermal insulation materials for pipelines.
