The International Scientific and Practical Conference “Contemporary Technologies for Airports Design and Construction” was held in Moscow as part of the 18th International Specialized Exhibition “Construction Engineering and Technology / CTT’2017” with the organisational support of Messe Munich, Germany.
The conference was attended by experts and specialists from Russian and foreign airports, general contractors and subcontractors engaged in airport infrastructure construction, design and scientific institutes, as well as Russian and foreign companies producing software, specialized construction equipment, machinery and materials.
The conference program covered the following topics:
- Current trends in the design and construction of airport infrastructure;
- Application of new technical and technological solutions to airports construction;
- Engineering software for airports design and construction;
- New products: special machinery, construction equipment and tools, building materials;
- Airport construction in adverse geological and climatic conditions;
- Contemporary technologies for airports construction and reconstruction: best practices of Russian and foreign companies.
The delegates from Soyuzbazalt, Basalt Projects Inc. and Trading House Russian Basalt – members of Basalt Projects Group, took an active part in the conference.
The Union for Basalt Industry Development “Soyuzbazalt” made a presentation on “Composites in airport construction: a new approach to solving urgent problems”, which revealed the main advantages of using composites over traditional structural materials, proved that basalt fiber used as a reinforcement is an effective solution, and considered existing and promising application areas of basalt plastics for the airports construction and improvements.
The main focus was on basalt materials used for roads construction, issues of water supply and sanitation, improvement of territories, and systems used for safe storage of fuel and aggressive substances. Basalt fiber reinforced materials can address the issues caused by adverse climatic conditions, able to extend life span and durability of airport structures and facilities, help avoid negative effects caused by metals, and reduce short term and long term financial and time expenses.
Airports traditionally belong to the structures of high consequence class. Aviation infrastructure must constantly be in the state of high technical and functional readiness. Applied for airport construction, reliable modern materials, such as basalt fiber, make it possible to meet high requirements, and to reduce cost of airports construction and maintenance during a much longer overhaul period,
