Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is an annual prestigious award scheme that rewards outstanding achievements by UK businesses and organizations, which excel at international trade, technological innovations or sustainable development. It is the highest official UK award for British businesses. It was established by a royal warrant in 1965. Every April the winner list is announced in a special supplement of the government bulletin The Gazette.
In 2018 Ancon Building Products jointly with its external strategic partner MagmaTech won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category for the successful development and introduction of its basalt composite, Teplo wall tie range.
The products are manufactured from continuous basalt fibres set in a polymer matrix, eliminating cold bridging across the insulated wall cavity. A spokesperson in the company emphasizes that basalt composite wall ties are 70 times more thermally efficient than those made of steel.
The Teplo wall tie range includes several products focused on different wall panels and fixing types. Their introduction improved traditional masonry cavity wall construction techniques, by minimising insulation thickness and wall footprint resulting in the growth of energy efficient housing.
Teplo wall ties were used to retrofit and build innovative residential, non-residential and public buildings, including the PassivHaus project.
It is not the first time when the company has won Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. In 2012 Ancon obtained it for the development of a unique lockable dowel, and in 2015 for the development of international trade operations.
“Winning three Queen’s Awards in seven years is an extraordinary achievement and reflects the level of professionalism with which Ancon employees, in all areas of our organisation, go about their daily business. Our focus on quality and innovation, combined with a single-minded determination to excel in everything we do, not only underpins our brand reputation in the UK but its growing significance worldwide,”
comments on their latest triumph in the Queen’s Award programme, Ancon’s Managing Director, Stuart Maxwell.
At the largest precast-specific trade show in North America, The Precast Show, Galen was the only Russian company that showcased basalt fiber products including new types of basalt composite wall ties.
