Development bank KfW got interested in manufacturing basalt insulation in Tajikistan

KfW director Christine Laabs has expressed the Bank’s willingness to finance the project on manufacturing thermal insulation based on basalt fiber in the Sughd Free Economic Zone.

Carrying out expert evaluations and updating business plans and feasibility studies of investment projects for the production of continuous basalt fiber, staple fiber and basalt composite products.

The project has been presented by Amirhon Mukhtarov, the founder of the Joint Venture “Dusty Amirhon”. The company has already got a license for basalt processing, and a certificate for basalt deposit. The entrepreneur is seeking funding of $ 5 million to start the initial phase of the project presented to Ms. Laabs.

Besides the fact, that unique property of basalt fiber enables him to produce a huge range of different insulation materials with excellent performance and relatively low cost, the production launch means the creation of new jobs in the country. Ms. Laabs also mentioned the efficiency and the great potential of the represented project.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to submit a JV “Dusty Amirhon” project on the manufacturing basalt insulation to the bank specialists’ attention. Christine Laabs visited FEZ “Sughd” during the Global Entrepreneurship Week, which was held in November 2015 in the city of Khujand, northern Tajikistan.
