JSC “Scientific Research Institute of Steel” presented the innovative armor at the exhibition INTERPOLITEX 2015 which was held in Moscow in autumn 2015.
The new invention was demonstrated in the section of Protective Structures and Materials and aroused a keen interest among the visitors.
To create such kind of armor the producers used an extruded composite material reinforced with basalt fibers. Basic safety characteristics of basalt armor are not inferior to aramid armor, despite the fact that basalt fiber much more accessible than scarce aramids. The experts consider that the armor produced from extruded composite material reinforced with basalt fibers may become a serious alternative to aramid armor. It is currently planned to use similar materials in new samples of light armored vehicles.
INTERPOLITEX – is an international exhibition dedicated to Means of State Security Provision, which is annually held in Moscow. This year’s event celebrated the twentieth anniversary.
