Omsk Region (Russia) to launch the manufacture of basalt fiber

With a total capacity up to 20 thousand tons per year, the production will be launched in two stages. Composite poles for power transmission lines are planned to become the first type of products made of basalt fiber.

Besides the poles for power transmission lines of various capacities, the new production facility will manufacture the cores for high-voltage cables, construction materials for engineering, aerospace and shipbuilding industries, the composite-based products to be used for construction purposes in the terms of the Far North and in earthquake prone zones with magnitudes up to 8-9, stated investomsk.ru.

It is planned to put 16 furnaces into operation at the first stage, then another 32 furnaces. The first stage annual production capacity is planned to reach 10 thousand tons of basalt fiber and 16 tons of basalt fiber products.

In addition to the production facility, the project proponent JSC Sibdok is going to establish a research center and a training center for the personnel working in the composite industry.

The production is supported by the government of Omsk Region, the total amount of investments is supposed to reach 3.6 billion Rubles.
