Russian-Hungarian project is among the winners of JEC WORLD 2016 INNOVATION AWARD

Modular, self-supporting, full composite bus body has been recognized the best solution in the category Urban Transportation. The award ceremony took place at the annual international exhibition JEC World, which was held in early March in Paris.

The main activity of Global Basalt Engineering LLC is creation of effective productions on release of continuous basalt fiber (СBF) with technologies of the last generation and composites on the basis of СBF (Basalt Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Composites as BFRP).

The composite bus body is a joint development of the Russian Nanotechnology Center of Composites and Hungarian company Evopro group. The Russian specialists have developed and implemented a technology of composite body for MODULO bus designed by the Hungarians. The final assembly takes place at the facilities of Hungarian partners.

The project was launched in October 2014 and in February 2015, RNC demonstrated the first samples of a self-supporting composite bus body. Due to the material, the developers managed not only to reduce a bus weight but also to facilitate the manufacturing process. In addition to a lightweight body (compared with the traditional one), the new product has perfect corrosion resistant properties. Owing to the modular system, different lengths of bus bodies can be built from the same parts.

What is more, the new bus body can also be adapted to suit different types of fuel (diesel, trolley, compressed natural gas, hybrid, electric), which means that they can be mass produced and then used in different ways according to the customer needs.

The first composite buses are currently running in Budapest and RNC is busy with the first 50-part series, which is in the production process.
