International Basalt Forum: focus on construction

The delegates of the International Basalt Forum 2016 discussed a lot of interesting topics connected with the construction and application of basalt composites but they did not give special consideration to the application of basalt composites for the construction of infrastructure facilities, housing projects etc.

The initiative to arrange these topics in the special session during the Forum came from Andrey Nikitin, the President of Basalt Industry Development Union, and Ekaterina Dubrovskaya, the General Director of International Association of Foundation Contractors, who will be a keynote speaker at the session ‘Industry-Specific Application: Basalt materials in the infrastructure, housing, road, and industrial construction’.

The Forum partner, the International Association of Foundation Contractors specializes in the inspection and assessment of buildings and structures foundations, machinery and equipment production and supply, provision of foundation services.

Ekaterina Dubrovskaya says that special attention is paid to the problems concerning the application of composite materials to strengthen the load-bearing constructions with the aim of extending the operational period, avoiding corrosion processes and, consequently, improving their quality and reliability.

A range of programs that are being implemented, including the Arctic region development, require careful and comprehensive consideration of novel materials application for the construction of transport infrastructure facilities, buildings and structures: severe climatic conditions, extremely low temperatures and territorial remoteness of the region restrict the use of conventional structural steels and alloys. The existing problems can be successfully solved with the help of basalt fiber based composites.

Please, find the program details and register for the 2nd International Basalt Forum on the Forum website.
