The Direct Investment Fund, established by AFK Sistema and RUSNANO, is investing in Apis Cor, the manufacturer of mobile construction 3D printers.
A promising Irkutsk based company is the first portfolio project of Rusnano Sistema Sicar, a private equity fund established in 2016. The parties do not disclose the exact amounts and distribution of shares in the authorized capital, reporting that the investment volume will amount to $ 6 million.
Despite the inertia and stubborn refusal to abandon traditional materials and methods, the construction industry is constantly attacked by additive technologies with offers to use advanced solutions and modernized processes.
The Russian company Apis Cor offered its own solution by developing a mobile circular construction 3D printer with a telescopic arm on the platform. The construction robot is able to print buildings up to three storeys high according to 3D model, including self-bearing walls and partitions, a retained framework for foundation, outer and inner finishing, for example, columns.
We have provided detailed information on the printing process demonstrated on-site at the Stupino aerated concrete factory. The printer is competitive with conventional technologies on cost and significantly outperforms them in terms of speed and ease of construction. Apis Cor’s technology is expected to make cottage construction 19% cheaper (compared to foam concrete houses), with the potential for further cost reduction at 20–30%.
Apis Cor intends to channel the raised capital into the active commercial growth: to increase the fleet of printers and to work with company portfolio. The company’s potential customers are based in Asia and the Middle East, as well as in the US and Europe.
Apis Cor is expected to have a fleet of several dozen of 3D printers by the end of 2018. Revenue in 2018 is expected to reach tens of millions of US dollars.
