Hexcel showcased new pultruded profiles at ISPO Munih 2018

Pultruded profiles Polyspeed are produced according to the technology offered by Structil, a company acquired by Hexcel in October, 2017.

The main activity of Global Basalt Engineering LLC is creation of effective productions on release of continuous basalt fiber (СBF) with technologies of the last generation and composites on the basis of СBF (Basalt Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Composites as BFRP).

This latest addition brings expertise in the pultrusion of high performance unidirectional and orientated profiles to Hexcel, the US-located corporation.

Pultruded or pull wound basalt composite components with constant sections are used to produce tubes, rods, and flat sections parts. Polyspeed pultruded profiles are used in several sports and marine applications including walking and ski poles, sail battens, arrows, kites, stiffeners for skiffs and racing boats etc.

Hexcel showcased a small part of its pultruded products at the trade fair for sports business ISPO Munich. The corporation stand also demonstrated a new addition to HexPly, a prepreg range, which helps ski manufacturers to reduce production cycle times and increase the quality of the final product.

Last year basalt fiber emerged on the stage of the largest sport industry event: innovative solution of France-based Rossignol, that is a basalt fiber reinforced ski jacket won ISPO Award 2017 in the ski segment.

According to the analytical company, the global market size of composites-based sporting goods, in terms of value, is projected to reach $ 4 billion by 2021. And the epoxy resin-based sporting goods are expected to be the fastest-growing resin type in sports composites market.
