The Future of Composites in Transportation to be discussed in Chicago, late June

Two-day international symposium The Future of Composites in Transportation will be held in Navy Pier Convention Center (Chicago), June 27-28. Alongside the symposium, the exhibition dedicated to one of the biggest composite market segments: ground transportation will be held.

The Future of Composites in Transportation 2018 will focus on innovations at transport and best practices of composite materials application: from driverless cars to buses and coaches, to trucks and trains. JEC Group is the event organizer, the company has paid a lot of attention to composites applied in various industry sectors.

The event will include:

  • Transportation Symposium: participants will be able to listen to the leading industry experts;
  • Innovation Hub & Live Demos: features innovative industry capabilities on the show floor, and the projects on the pilot stage;
  • Job Center and Education & Skills Village: where participants will have the opportunity to distribute their resume if they are “on watch” or looking for a job and also students will get introduced to the benefits of the industry and their future profession;
  • Innovation Awards: focuses on ground transportation solutions.

Innovation Awards will reward the projects in the following five nominations: Passenger Cars, Off-Road Vehicles, Public Transportation, Heavy Trucks, and Sustainability.

Automakers and other market players express increasingly more interest in fiber reinforced composites. The automotive lightweight material market is projected to reach a market size of $ 110 billion in 2021.

Early this year Chinese automaker Dongfeng announced that basalt fiber and carbon fiber would became the first priority materials in its research studies of composites. Thermo-Tec introduced a new line of basalt heat insulation into the automotive.
