Rockwool invests 50 mln euro in basalt wool factory

Construction of a new manufacturing facility to produce basalt wool insulation was launched in Romania.

To be located on over 12 hectares in the Ploiesti West Park, the largest industrial park in the South-Eastern Europe, a new manufacturing facility will be the ROCKWOOL Group’s first stone wool factory in Romania.

ROCKWOOL Group has already made an investment in the amount of 50 mln euro. Production of basalt mineral wool at the new factory is expected to start in 2019.

Thus, ROCKWOOL will build further on the Group’s already solid presence in Romania, where it has been active for almost 20 years through its sales representative office in Bucharest.

ROCKWOOL Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of basalt wool products that offers non-combustible insulation, solutions for the shipbuilding and for offshore structures, and also industrial & technical insulation. The Group’s product portfolio includes wall and facade systems, acoustic ceilings, substrates, noise and vibration control solutions.

The Ploiesti West Park is also a location of Isover manufacturing facility that produces mineral wool and belongs to Saint-Gobain, the French construction materials behemoth.

The regional basalt insulation market has prompted the company to modernize the mineral wool factory, whereas the glass wool production was deemed to be unprofitable and discontinued.
