The series consists of standardised round and square tubes and connectors, offering significant weight savings compared with dry fibre injected components or aluminium tubes. The Refiflex system measures 25×25 millimetres for the square tubes, while the round ones are 30/27 and 30/28 millimetres.
“With the Refiflex system we offer engineers a flexible and easy construction method for frames and trusses when stiffness and light weight are of the essence,” says Bas Nijpels, Sales Engineer at Refitech. “As potential markets we see stand and stage construction, but also industrial automation, wherever robots need to perform fast and accurate material handling. An example is the use for gripper frames that remove plastic parts from injection moulding machines with high speed and accuracy. In such cases a carbon frame is both lighter and stiffer than the aluminium alternative, resulting in higher precision and lower energy costs.”
Refiflex components can be purchased online. CAD-files and drawings can be supplied for engineers that want to create a design themselves, but in addition Refitech can help converting an existing design for an aluminium construction to a carbon lightweight frame, or work with a customer to create a complete tailor-made solution. The Refiflex system consists entirely of standardised components, which make it very versatile and accessible in terms of investment. The customer pays for the parts and does not have to invest in moulds themselves,” adds Bas Nijpels.
He continues, “Over the next few months the round connector programme will be extended with two more fabric finishes. In addition we are working on a solution where the connectors can be mounted with the aid of a clicker, similar to what you see in a tent pole. This means no gluing will be required and the frame can be disassembled, ideal for temporary constructions.”
