A 350 bar hydrogen composite tank

Thanks to a cooperation between Sika Automotive France, Toray Carbon Fibers Europe, MF Tech and Ullit, a Ullit hydrogen 36 litre tank – 350 bar obtains the approval EC/79/2009 for automotive application.

Among all testing requested by the EC 79/2009, the type 4 composite tank equipped with a valve was hydrogen cycled uninterruptedly from 20 to 350 bar for 1 000 cycles, followed by a permeation test of 500 hours on the same tank. 

The permeation result obtained was 0,14 to 0,62 Ncm3/litre/hour. This rate is 10 times better than the threshold of 6 Ncm3/litre/hour requested by the regulation EC 79/2009.

It’s also important to underline that afterwards, no collapse of the liner has been noted.

The next step of this successful cooperation between Sika Automotive France SAS – Sika Advanced Resins, Toray Carbon Fibers Europe, MF Tech and Ullit is the approval of a 36 litre hydrogen tank – 70 Mpa according to the regulation EC 79/2009.
