A fireproof hydraulic seal

Greene Tweed’s FPH Seal is an elastomeric seal stack to pass fireproof testing for fireproof-rated equipment (1093°C/2000°F minimum average for 15 minutes), making it good choice for thrust reverser actuator systems (TRAS), fuel systems, and thrust vectoring/nozzle systems.

Greene Tweed, a manufacturer of high-performance seals, thermoplastics, composites, and engineered components, announces it will showcase its groundbreaking Fireproof Hydraulic Seal (FPH Seal) at the 53rd International Paris Air Show. Greene Tweed will also exhibit its Fusion 665 ultra-low-temperature FKM elastomer, Chemraz 676 ultra-high-temperature FFKM elastomer, and Xycomp DLF lightweight high-performance thermoplastic composite components in the UK pavilion.

Using standard aerospace glands in accordance with AS4716 and AS5857, the new FPH seal provides good high- and low-hydraulic pressure sealing in static applications. Traditional fire shields are typically heavy, bulky, easily damaged, costly, and they require assembly. The FPH Seal offers a good alternative.

Stop by the booth to see Chemraz 676, an ultra-high-temperature and highly chemical-resistant perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) elastomer material specifically formulated to meet and exceed Aerospace Material Specification (AMS) 7257E requirements. With industry-leading compression set properties and a maximum operating temperature of 615°F/324°C, Chemraz 676 is an ideal choice for engine and fuel manifold applications, where high temperatures and aggressive chemicals combine to shorten the life of standard elastomers. 

Also on display is Fusion FKM 665, a new generation, ultra-low-temperature and chemical-resistant elastomer, specifically formulated to meet and exceed AMS 7379 and AMS-P-83461 requirements. With a temperature range of -70°F to 450°F (-57°C to 232°C), Fusion 665 achieves outstanding low-temperature performance without compromising high-temperature performance.

Visitors can also see Xycomp DLF high-performance thermoplastic composite structural components, which offer the performance of metal at a fraction of the weight. Xycomp DLF composite materials were developed to enable replacement of complex-shape metal components on aircraft. With outstanding fatigue, vibration, and impact resistance, Xycomp DLF provides up to 60% weight savings to help reduce emissions and fuel burn while providing exceptional performance.
