Creative Composites announces partnership with Artemis Technologies

Creative Composites, a UK-based advanced composites manufacturer, has announced a partnership with Artemis Technologies, to make component parts for the world’s first zero-emission workboat.

Northern Ireland based Creative Composites, known for their ability to supply high quality complex parts for global brands in the automotive, truck, materials handling and medical sectors will now collaborate with Artemis Technologies – a high-performance maritime design and applied technologies company, to create components for its revolutionary new electric eFoiler Propulsion System (eFoiler).

The system forms part of Artemis Technologies’ plan to lead the decarbonisation of the maritime industry. Creative Composites will manufacture a range of component parts for the eFoiler including appendage control surfaces and hydrodynamic fairings.

As part of the collaboration, staff from Artemis Technologies will be based at Creative Composites to work alongside the team. They will benefit from knowledge sharing and value engineering offered by Creative Composite’s in-house specialist designers and engineers, helping to build new skills in the maritime sector.

Artemis Technologies, a sister company to the Artemis Racing professional sailing team is the lead partner in a Belfast consortium bidding to return shipbuilding to the city.

What is the eFoiler Propulsion System?
A hydrofoil is a wing-like appendage under the hull of a vessel. As the vessel increases its speed the hydrofoils lift the hull up and out of the water, greatly reducing wetted area, resulting in an order of magnitude reduction in drag. Over the last two years Artemis Technologies has been developing a commercial application for this technology, named the eFoiler Propulsion System (eFoiler).

The eFoiler is based on the integration of an ultra high density electric Motor Generator Unit  into an autonomously controlled carbon fibre hydrofoil. With minimal increase in wetted surface area and drag, it provides the first viable solution for the early adoption of high-speed zero-emissions maritime transport.This truly transformative and complex technology will reduce the drag of a conventional fast ferry or traditional passive ‘V’ hydrofoil, by up to 90%, uniquely making electric propulsion, with high-speed and range, commercially viable.The eFoiler Propulsion System is available as a stand-alone product for both new vessels and retrofitting of current fleets.
